Salamanca Drive information

Please see below a copy of the email sent to our Disrict Councillor Rob Adams regarding work on Salamanca Drive. (The PC has been authorised to share this information)
Morning Rob,
Sorry I missed your call yesterday; just picked up your voicemail.
We have been assessing our parks and open spaces over the past year or so to ensure sites are relevantly protected against unauthorised encampments. As part of this project, Parks Officers surveyed their sites and made recommendations based on the current risk and control measures that could be applied.
Salamanca Drive was identified as having no protection so a recommendation of a knee rail and barrier was recommended as a solution and these were the works that commenced on Monday.
However, after speaking to the team, no pre-work engagement was undertaken with the residents so they obviously had no idea that these works were due to be undertaken and, as a result, were alarmed and not in favour of the works. I withdrew the contractors from site immediately, particularly as there were some concerns they had gone through a cable which had not been picked up on their scanner. It is believed that this cable was defunct so has had no impact.
I am speaking to the Parks Officer and Senior Parks Officer about the next steps for this area and will feedback to the residents who have contacted us and yourself.
Hope this helps; thought it was easier to write down in an email than phone call but please let me know if we need to chat it through still.
Kind regards,
Tim Lewis

Message from Worcestershire County Council reference phone network switchover.

You may be aware that by January 2027, the UK’s old copper phone network will be switched off. For older or vulnerable residents, particularly those with telecare alarms or no mobile phone, it can be confusing and potentially risky if they’re not prepared in time.
These changes will affect everyone who has or relies on a home phone, particularly for a telecare alarm, medical device, or burglar alarm. With less than a year to go before the switchover, ignoring provider messages mean the services you rely on may be disrupted. It’s important to take action when BT, Virgin Media O2 or your landline provider, like TalkTalk, Sky, Zen, EE, PlusNet or any other provider contacts you, or even better – DO NOT wait to be contacted and instead contact your provider today. For most, it’s as simple as plugging your phone into your router instead of the wall socket.
Further information and support are available on BT’s Connected Together site www.bt.com/about/all-ip/connected-together, or by calling 0330 1234 150.
Don’t put off switching and make sure you and your loved ones are supported throughout the process.
You can also watch BT’s Digital Voice Expert explaining how to prepare for the UK Landline Switchover www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYk2cVGgOU&t=13s It is a simple guide explaining what to expect.
Attached to this email is a simple checklist which may also be helpful. Feel free to share this with your residents.
