As a Parish Council we have for several years been expressing very strong concerns about the nomination of Woodbury Lane as an Active Travel Corridor, linking Worcester City and Worcestershire Parkway station. Despite a perfectly good plan having been developed at public expense several years ago to address the shortfalls within our parish, coupled with our repeated demands for action, Woodbury Lane remains unsafe for those trying to access or move from Worcestershire Parkway Station by cycle or on foot. The Parish Council has hosted three successive Worcestershire County Council Cabinet members for Transport to tour the route, and while they all agreed there was an issue, none of them have done anything about it.
While we await the imminent release of the first draft plans for the roads to serve Wychavon Town, there is currently no proposal for Woodbury Lane other than a vague recognition of the need to improve active travel safety. Already the main access to several, busy, established settlements and a major rat-run for vehicles avoiding M5 junction 7, it will shortly become a major access point for Wychavon Town.
To gauge the strength of local feeling and create data to strengthen our cause, the Parish Council recently carried out an online survey of parish residents. Unsurprisingly, the results of the survey vindicated the Parish Council’s view of the safety issues in Woodbury Lane.
The survey has now been passed on to Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council and we will continue to press at every opportunity in the full knowledge that our position is supported by the public we represent.
Thank you to all that took part.
