Be ‘frightfully thoughtful’ this Halloween.

West Mercia Police are urging those taking part in Halloween trick or treating this year to be “s-careful” and “frightfully thoughtful” of others.
Halloween can be a great time of year for many, particularly children and young people, and a great opportunity to dress up and go trick or treating.
However, for some people, Halloween behaviour can leave them feeling intimidated and distressed, or they don’t want to be visited by trick-or-treaters.
Superintendent Edward Hancox said: “We know Halloween can be an exciting time for many people and don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, but we are asking that if you do plan on trick or treating that you are mindful of others who may not want to get involved, as Halloween trick or treaters can often leave some people feeling intimated or distressed.
“As we have done in previous years, we will have an increased police presence throughout the evening during Halloween with officers carrying out high visibility patrols in key areas to ensure those who are out and about can enjoy Halloween safely.
“If anyone does have any concerns while they are out trick or treating, whether it be anti-social or suspicious behaviour then I would encourage them to report this to us.”

Planning Applications

We have noted the popularity of the Planning pages on the Parish Council website, and as a development of our online/ social media communications, we intend to publicise each planning application that the Parish Council is formally consulted upon via its website and Facebook page.
This will highlight planning applications to readers and enable any comments to be submitted directly to the appropriate Local Planning Authority (District/City/County Council).
Here on the first one to be published in the format that we will use in future.
The following planning application has been received by the Parish Council for consultation:
W/23/01987/FUL – Grange Farm, Hatfield Lane: Erection of agricultural barn (retrospective)
If you have any comments, these should be submitted to Wychavon District Council by 6 November 2023.
Further details can be found via this link: https://plan.wychavon.gov.uk/
A summary of current planning applications in our parish can also be viewed in our published monthly meeting Agendas :

Street Watch Volunteers

Would you like to help keep your community safe, get some exercise, and meet new people?
West Mercia Police are looking for volunteers to join a new StreetWatch scheme!
As a Streetwatch Volunteer, you will walk your local streets in groups and provide reassurance and engagement with local issues that matter most. While you will have no police powers, you will work directly with local policing teams to report any issues noticed during your walks.
Becoming a StreetWatch Volunteer is a fantastic way to help keep your community safe, meet new people in your community who share the same values, improve community engagement with the police, and keep fit and healthy.

A second chance to grab a slice of Wychavon Rural Fund

Rural businesses and communities can now apply for the second round of the Wychavon Rural Fund.

Companies, charities, community groups, town and parish councils and other organisations can bid for grants of between £2,500 and £25,000. Businesses will be expected to match fund 50 per cent of the total cost of a project and other organisations 30 per cent.

The money can be used by small or micro businesses in rural areas, including farmers, to diversify into other sectors and to grow tourism. Rural community projects such as community energy schemes, improvements to local green spaces, upgraded walking and cycling routes and cultural or heritage projects can also bid for support.

The money can only be used to fund physical projects such as new buildings or renovations and not for staff or day-to-day running costs.

Expressions of interest must be submitted through Wychavon’s website using the online form by 13 November 2023. Shortlisted bids will then be invited to work up a full application.

The first round saw 82 organisations put forward projects for funding totalling more than £1.2 million. Decisions on which bids have been successful in round one will be made by the end of the year.

In total £1 million of support will be released over the next two years. The funding is part of Wychavon’s share of the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Paul Middlebrough, Executive Board Member for Town and Rural Vitality on Wychavon District Council said: “We’re delighted to be able to release this second round of funding following strong interest shown in round one. This money will help support the growth of all parts of our local economy and further enhance our communities so they can continue to thrive.”

More information about the qualifying criteria for the fund and how to apply can be found at www.wychavon.gov.uk/rural-fund.
